I grew up in a large creative family near Amsterdam.
My dad was a fine artist and had his studio at home. As a child I could join in at his drawing classes whenever I wanted and had all kind of drawing and painting materials at my disposition. From him I learned many academic techniques and I've also seen how he made a living with his art and how provided for his ten children. This requires concentration and great flexibility. How he juggled with creativity and the entrepreneurial spirit is still a great inspiration for me today.
At art school I studied graphic design and illustration. Later on I have specialized as an illustrator for children’s books, magazines and did lots of schoolbooks.
I lived in Spain for a while and there my interest in painting ceramics began.
After some experimentation I fell in love with painting with cobalt oxide on porcelain , a very classic combination that doesn't cease to fascinate me. Each ceramic artist will agree that this is a very gratifying combination. Every culture has its own interpretation of blue and white ceramics.
Bisque is the porous unglazed pottery that is fired once but not yet glazed. Painting on it in this stage has great similarity with painting with watercolours. That is why I like to refer to my blue and white pieces as baked watercolours.

I have my studio in 's-Hertogenbosch and do everything there, from forming the clay, painting, glazing, firing, photographing and shipping.
I also give workshops to small groups.
